LABBX Awards and Honors
In 2007, LABBX will not hand out any awards.
The 2005 Los Angeles Black Book Expo awards and honors included two Lifetime Achievement Awards and Leading Lady in Publishing Awards, and twelve divisional book awards.
The goal of the LABBX book award is to provide increased attention to the literary achievements of African and African American centered publishers, writers, authors, poets, and editors. The 2005 awards was juried by www.rawsistaz.com reading and writing online book club and the executive director of LABBX based on editorial excellence, professional production, originality of the narrative, and value to a particular literary genre.
The Lifetime Achievement Award winners are Chicago-based poet, publisher and educator Haki R. Madhubuti and California-based poet, publisher, playwright, and educator Marvin X. The Leading Lady in Publishing Award winners are publisher and business person Dr. Rosie Milligan of Los Angeles, California and author-publisher Vickie Stringer of Columbus, Ohio.
